WACO — The Hutto High School boys varsity soccer team won its first playoff game in program history Tuesday, March 26 as the Hippos defeated Waxahachie High School 3-2 in the 6A bidistrict playoffs held at Waco ISD Stadium.

Hutto came out firing on all cylinders as the offense surged in the first half with three goals, maintaining a 3-1 lead over the Indians at halftime. Hippos junior Jacob Bell, fellow junior Selvin Sevilla and freshman Sebastian Gonzalez all scored one goal apiece for the Hippos.

The Indians were able to score the lone goal of the second half to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Hippos’ defense held for the victory, getting solid goaltending from junior Kevin Vazquez and sophomore Matias Aguilar as they split halves.

The Hippos finished the regular season strong with a three-game win streak in March that saw them lock up the No. 3 seed for the playoffs and outscored opponents 13-2 during that streak. Hutto (8-4-6 overall record), under Head Coach Joshua Johnson, was scheduled March 30 to take on Garland High School in the area round in China Spring. The winner of this match will play either Duncanville High School or Rockwall High School in the regional quarterfinal.
