Vacation rental hosts invited to workshop

The Greater Taylor Chamber of Commerce is hosting an hour workshop for hoteliers and vocation rental hosts 2-3 p.m. Monday, March 21, at the Taylor Public Library, 801 Vance St.

“We are revamping our tourism efforts as the local visitor center,” said Tia Rae Stone, Chamber president. “These efforts are paid for through local hotel occupancy taxes that every hotel, motel and vacation rental pay. It seems only right that they have a loud voice in how they are used.”

She said there may be some confusion with some one-time or newer vacation rental owners.

“Apparently some of the websites they use give the impression that all of their taxes can be paid through them, and that is not the case,” said Stone. “These hosts provide excellent representation for our community and we don’t want them to get into tax trouble without knowing about it.”

Still, that won’t be the bulk of the agenda.

“We are rebuilding our efforts from the ground up and we need to hear, from them, what works,” she said. “We hope some of them will sign on as members of the committee that meets throughout the year.”
