THRALL — Miley Pokorny struck out 15 and Ashlyn Jarosek belted out a pair of hits to lead the Thrall Tigerettes (14-6 overall, 3-4 District 27-2A) to a 2-0 win over the Bartlett Lassies Saturday.

Thrall scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first. Mikayla Velasquez reached to open the inning after being hit by a pitch. Ashlyn Jarosek followed with a single to left field. Bartlett’s left fielder had trouble getting the ball in, allowing Velazquez to score for a 1-0 lead. With one out, Dezi Lopez lined a double to left advancing Ashlyn Jarosek to third, and Briana Jarosek followed with a run-scoring grounder to the shortstop that gave Thrall a 2-0 lead.

Bartlett threatened to score in both the fourth and sixth innings, but couldn’t manage to push a run across. The Lassies had runners on third in both innings, but each time Pokorny was able to pitch her way out of trouble. The win ran Pokorny’s season record to 12-4. Ashlyn Jarosek finished the game with a pair of hits in three trips to the plate and raised her season average to .515.

The Tigerettes now sit in fifth place in the district standings, a halfgame behind Milano. Thorndale currently leads the district, while Rosebud-Lott trails the Lady Dogs by a game.

Thrall will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Marlin to face the Chilton Lady Pirates. The game will be played at Marlin High School because Chilton has no field.
