SALADO — The Taylor High School varsity baseball team concluded non-district play on a very high note Tuesday, March 19 as the Ducks held on to win 3-2 on the road at Salado High School.
The Ducks got on the board in the top of the first inning as a two-out RBI single by Ayden Gutierrez gave them a 1-0 lead over the Eagles.
In what was a pitcher’s duel for most of the game, Taylor padded its lead in the sixth frame as Chris Perez scored on a wild pitch and Aiden Aguero hit an RBI single to go up 3-0.
Salado got its only two runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning but Taylor pitcher Devin Valdez got out of the jam with a 3-2 lead. Valdez finished a strong night on the mound with six innings pitched, three strikeouts, only three hits allowed and two runs given up.
With the Ducks clinging on to a 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Braylan Alderete came in to pitch and slammed the door shut on Salado to prevent them from rallying.
Taylor (8-6-2 overall record), under Head Coach Kale McQuillen, was scheduled March 22 to begin 4A-District 22 play hosting Manor New Tech High School. The Ducks will remain home Monday, March 25 at 7 p.m. versus Caldwell High School.
