GRANGER — The Granger High School varsity baseball team picked up its first 2A-District 27 win March 16 at home as the Lions cruised to a 17-7 triumph over Chilton High School.

The Lions got out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run triple by sophomore Wyatt Rochner and an RBI single by fellow sophomore Nicholas Hamende.

Granger’s offense continued its surge on offense in the second frame on an RBI double by senior Michael Selucky and a two-run double by junior Marcus Martinez in a lead that would eventually grow to 10-0.

The visiting Pirates would eventually get as close to a 12-7 deficit before the Lions pulled away again on the scoreboard in the fifth and sixth innings.

Martinez had a team-high three runs batted in while Selucky, Rochner, sophomore Ryder Bice and fellow sophomore Caleb Hobratsch each drove in two RBI apiece. As a team, the Lions drew 19 walks and stole six bases in the 10-run win against Chilton.

Granger (3-11 overall, 1-3 district record), under Head Coach Kody Kuhl, was scheduled March 19 to play at Milano High School and will return home Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m. to host Thorndale High School.
