GRANGER — Granger High School varsity softball won its second straight 2A-District 27 game in a row Saturday, March 16 as the Lady Lions routed Chilton High School 22-1.
The Lady Lions scored 21 runs in the bottom of the first inning in a variety of ways as Granger had 10 base hits, drew nine walks, eight batters were hit by pitches and also had seven stolen bases as a team.
Granger sophomore Abigail Crouch had a team-high seven runs batted in, which included an inside-the-park grand slam. Lady Lions freshman Kinsey Vitek had six RBI and hit a grand slam, senior Clarissa Miller drove in two runs and Granger got one RBI each from junior Marissa Hall, sophomore Ariana Herrera and junior Sofia Bernal.
Herrera pitched three innings in the circle and got the lopsided mercyrule win over Chilton with four strikeouts and just one hit allowed.
Granger (7-6-2 overall, 3-3 district record), under Head Coach Jennifer Fudge, was scheduled March 19 to play at Milano High School and will return home Friday, March 22 at 6 p.m. to host Thorndale High School.
