The Taylor High School varsity baseball team was in action at home Thursday, March 14 as the Ducks cruised to a 12-2 victory over Austin Texans Homeschool.
After the Ducks scored one run in each of the first two innings, Taylor used a pair of five-run scoring outbursts in the fourth and sixth frames to put this game away via run rule.
Taylor used strong defense, baserunning and situational hitting to gradually build its lead throughout the contest and keep the Texans at bay.
The Ducks were led on offense by Nick Treuter with a double and a team-high four runs batted in, while senior Braylan Alderete legged out a triple and had two RBI on the night. Taylor seniors Dominick Hartman and Aiden Aguero also drove in one run apiece as the Ducks took advantage of nine walks issued by Texan pitchers.
Fellow seniors Jordan Pickerill and Jackson Meller were very active on the basepaths with two stolen bases each, while junior Xavier Juarez had a team-high two hits and drew two walks.
On the mound for the Ducks, sophomore Natas Leman had a solid outing for Taylor as he pitched six innings with eight strikeouts and only two hits allowed in the win.
Taylor (7-6-2 overall record), under Head Coach Kale McQuillen, will return for its nondistrict finale Tuesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. hosting Salado High School. The Ducks will begin 4A-District 22 play Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at home versus Manor New Tech High School.
