FRANKLIN — The Taylor High School varsity baseball team picked up two wins March 7-9 as the Ducks competed at the Franklin Tournament.
TAYLOR DUCKS 2, FRANKLIN LIONS 0
Tied 0-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Ducks broke free against Franklin High School as senior Chris Perez hit a two-run single with two outs. Perez, who had a dominant effort on the mound throughout, slammed the door shut on the Lions’ offense in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the 2-0 victory. The star pitcher pitched a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts and only one walk issued.
Taylor senior Dominick Hartman and junior Nick Treuter each had two hits, while junior Xavier Juarez also had a hit and scored the go-ahead run on the single by Perez.
TAYLOR DUCKS 8, YOAKUM BULLDOGS 0
Following a 4-4 tie with Bay Area Christian School and 6-5 loss to Cameron C.H. Yoe High School in games Friday, the Ducks ended their time at the tournament Saturday with a dominant 8-0 victory over Yoakum High School. The Ducks scored five runs in the second inning and tacked on three more runs in the fourth frame.
Taylor junior Trey Stromberg drove in a team-high two runs with the Ducks also getting one RBI apiece from Perez, Treuter, senior Ayden Gutierrez, senior Aiden Aguero and junior Kaddy Maravilla.
Aguero pitched a shutout in 4.0 innings and had four strikeouts with just two walks issued in the win over the Bulldogs.
Taylor (6-6-2 overall record), under Head Coach Kale McQuillen, is scheduled March 15 at 7 p.m. to host Gatesville High School.
