Taylor High School, Thrall High School and Granger High School had their boys varsity powerlifting teams compete Saturday, March 9 at regional meets in the squat, bench press and deadlift.
TAYLOR DUCKS
The Ducks had a successful stint at the Boys Region 2 Division 2 meet held at Gatesville High School with three state qualifiers as Brandt Whitlow, Ernest Alderete and Colbey Solis will represent the Ducks.
Whitlow was the runnerup in the 181-pound class as he lifted 1,265 total pounds, Alderete took home a bronze medal in the 308-pound class with 1,660 total pounds lifted and Solis placed fifth in the 198-pound class with 1,415 total pounds lifted.
THRALL TIGERS
The Tigers had a solid performance at the Boys Region 4 Division 4 meet held at Colmesneil High School with two state qualifiers. Hayden Heselmeyer, who was named Outstanding Squatter on the heavy platform, qualified for state in the 198-pound class as he placed second with 1,505 total pounds lifted. Trace Riggs also qualified for state in the 198-pound class in fourth place with 1,400 total pounds lifted.
Also competing for Thrall at the regional meet were Michael Machala placing third in the 148-pound class with 1,155 total pounds lifted, Luke Pearson fifth in the 181-pound class with 1,270 total pounds lifted and Payton Pipkin seventh in the 181-pound class with 1,235 total pounds lifted.
GRANGER LIONS
Granger also competed at the Boys Region 4 Division 4 meet in Colmesneil. Adrian Lizardo placed third in the 123-pound class with 790 total pounds lifted, Mikhah Cantu fifth in the 165-pound class with 1,190 total pounds lifted, Jett Jolly sixth in the 165-pound class with 1,130 total pounds lifted, Xayvien Aguayo seventh in the super heavy weight class with 1,045 total pounds lifted, Isaac Lizardo seventh in the 132-pound class with 855 and Dash Reed in the 114-pound class with 505.
