AUSTIN — St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Austin hosted the Central Texas Region Solo and Ensemble Contest Saturday, March 2 through the Texas Private School Music Educators Association.
Six students from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Taylor performed instrumental solos for a judge and three earned the highest ranking on their solos. The students worked on their solos for about two months to prepare.
Student performers included Bruno Salazar-Gladyn, fifth grade on flute; Blake Yezak, sixth grade on bells; Emma Hayes, seventh grade on trombone; Lydia Melcher, seventh grade on horn; Samuel Salazar, seventh grade on trumpet; Xochitl Hopkinson, eighth grade on clarinet.
Also in attendance was St. Mary’s Director of Music, Abigail Colmark, and fifth grade teacher, Kathy Sala.
