It was another solid weekend for the Thrall Tigerettes (11-2) last weekend at the Taylor tournament. The Tigerettes posted a 3-1 record in the two-day event, losing only to 5A Killeen Shoemaker while besting Bastrop, Rockdale and Salado’s junior varsity squad.

The Tigerettes opened tournament play with a hard-fought 1-0 win over a strong Bastrop Lady Bears team. Miley Pokorny pitched four shutout innings, allowing just two hits, while striking out five. Thrall scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth. Dezi Lopez led off the inning with a single and scored on an error.

“Friday, we played really well,” said Thrall Coach Matt Pokorny. “We beat a great Bastrop team in a pitcher’s duel.”

Game two was not as dramatic. The Tigerettes jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead, and added five in the second, en route to an 8-0 win over the Rockdale Lady Tigers. Melaina Grissom led the Tigerettes at the plate going 3-for-3, while Ashlyn Jarosek drove in three runs in the win. Miley Pokorny had another solid outing, allowing one hit over 2.2 innings.

On Saturday, the Tigerettes struggled at the plate against the Lady Wolves and fell to Shoemaker 5-1. Kenzie Engelke and Jarosek each recorded a hit, and Jarosek drove in the lone Thrall run.

In the tournament finale, Lopez drove in four runs and hit her fourth home run of the season to lead the Tigerettes to a 5-1 win over the Salado Lady Eagles JV. Lopez and Jarosek each knocked out two hits in the win, while Miley Pokorny, Adelynn Bishop and Kyla Gee combined for a five-hitter in the circle.

“I’m super excited to be 11-2 on the season,” said Coach Pokorny.

The Tigerettes opened District 27-2A play on Tuesday night against a solid Milano team. Coach Pokorny was expecting a tough matchup. “Milano finished second last year, behind Bremond, and they return eight starters,” he said.
