LAGO VISTA — The Taylor High School varsity baseball team picked up two wins Friday, March 1 during the Ducks’ time at the Lago Vista Tournament.

TAYLOR DUCKS 9, SAVIO EAGLES 2 

The Ducks used an eight-run second inning and a strong pitching outing from senior Devin Valdez to coast to a 9-2 victory over St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School.

On the mound, Valdez struck out seven opposing batters in six innings pitched with just two hits allowed and one earned run.

Taylor senior Chris Perez and junior outfielder Trey Stromberg drove in two runs, while senior Braylan Alderete hit a solo home run to lead off the third inning. Ducks senior Dominick Hartman, fellow senior Ayden Gutierrez and junior Nick Treuter had one RBI apiece in the win against the Eagles.

TAYLOR DUCKS 5, TEXANS BASEBALL HOMESCHOOL 2

Ducks senior Deacon Stokes picked up the 5-2 victory for Taylor over Texans Baseball Homeschool as he pitched five innings with five strikeouts and just two hits allowed. Stokes also had an RBI double in the third inning, while Alderete and senior Jordan Pickerill each had a sacrifice fly to bring in a run.

Taylor (4-5-1 overall record), under Head Coach Kale McQuillen, will travel March 7-9 to compete at the Franklin Tournament.
