Lady Ducks power through regionals

DUBLIN — The Taylor High School girls varsity powerlifting team was victorious Friday, March 1 as the Lady Ducks won the 4A-1 Region 2 championship meet hosted by Dublin High School.

Under Taylor Head Coach Rylee Davis, the Lady Ducks’ regional championship team was Ariana Concha, Eliana Aleman, Vanessa Diaz, Karina Hall-Albavera, Mayte Jimenez, Nicolette Villarreal, Amalia Lopez, Zoe Moore, Krista Randig, Rylie Dlouhy, Ri’Queleigh Holmes-Grant and Sophia Plonka.

Plonka, Randig, Holmes-Grant, Dlouhy and Aleman all qualified for the upcoming state meet in their respective classes.

Plonka placed first in the 242-and-over class with 980 total pounds lifted, Randig won the 242pound class with 980, Holmes-Grant took home gold in the 148pound class with 835, Dlouhy was victorious in the 114-pound class with 760 and Aleman won silver in the 132-pound class with 695.

Two girls broke regional records in their respective weight classes that were previously held in 2019 as Holmes-Grant lifted 210 pounds on the bench press and Dlouhy lifted 310 pounds on the deadlift. Dlouhy earned three lightweight awards with Outstanding Bench Press, Outstanding Deadlift and Overall Lightweight Outstanding Lifter.

The Lady Ducks are scheduled Friday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. to compete in the 4A big school state championship meet held at Comerica Center in Frisco.
