HUTTO — The Hutto High School boys varsity basketball team had several players named as 6A-District 12 all-district selections following a trip to the bi-district playoffs.
Hippos junior Cylin Tate was a first-team selection as he led Hutto’s balanced scoring attack with 10.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game. Hutto had three players named as second team award winners with senior Zachary Hicks, senior Byron Piper and junior Jacob Bell. Hicks also averaged double-figure scoring with 10.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. Piper and Bell averaged 8.3 and 7.9 points per game for the Hippos, respectively, and the senior duo of Hicks and Piper were both academic all-district selections.
All-district honorable mentions for Hutto were senior Dylan Patrick, senior Jacques Calhoun, junior Landyn Rosow, sophomore Brian Caldwell and sophomore Malachi Hilby.
The Hippos, under Head Coach Gant Caraway, finished with a 16-16 overall record and went 7-5 in district play to clinch the No. 3 seed for the postseason. Hutto fell in the bi-district round 82-57 to the Indians of Waxahachie High School.
