BOSQUEVILLE — The Thrall High School girls varsity powerlifting team and one Granger High School competitor lifted Feb. 24 at the Girls Region 2 Class 1A-2A Championships meet hosted by Bosqueville High School. Lifters competed in the squat, bench press and deadlift.
Tigerettes powerlifting placed second as a team and brought home plenty of awards back to Thrall with three gold medals, one silver and one bronze.
First-place finishers for Thrall were Gracie Fitzgerald in the 220-pound class with 850 total pounds lifted, Avery Koonce in the 105-pound class with 645 total pounds lifted and Jaycee Chandler in the 114-pound class with 590 total pounds lifted.
Thrall had a silver medalist in the 105-pound class after Talia Yanez lifted 570 total pounds, while Cora Leon won bronze in the 242-and-over class with 925 total pounds lifted.
The Granger Lady Lions got a strong showing from Eva Ramirez in the 105-pound class as she lifted 510 total pounds which earned her a fourth-place finish.
