SMITHVILLE — For the second time in a week, the Taylor High School girls varsity soccer team went to penalty kicks and won as the Lady Patos came from behind Feb. 23 to defeat Smithville High School.
Down 1-0 in regulation, Taylor got an equalizer from sophomore Tessa Kopecky as her goal sent the match to penalty kicks and the Lady Patos won the shootout 3-1. Kopecky also made three clutch saves as goalkeeper during the match.
Taylor also beat rival Rockdale High School in a match Feb. 20 that was also tied 1-1 and went to penalty kicks. Kopecky made two huge saves in penalty kicks, including one that sealed the victory for the Lady Patos.
Taylor continues to play strong team defense as this squad has allowed just three regulation goals combined in its seven district victories.
The Lady Patos (12-6 overall record), under Head Coach Jose Flores, were scheduled Feb. 27 for a rematch at home with Giddings High School. The Lady Buffaloes are currently the 4A-District 24 frontrunner and handed Taylor its only loss of district play earlier this month.
