SMITHVILLE — The Taylor High School boys varsity soccer team left no doubt Friday, Feb. 23 as Los Patos rode a second-half surge in a lopsided 7-1 victory at Smithville High School.
With a 1-0 lead over the Tigers at halftime, Los Patos poured it on in the second half with six goals as Taylor bounced back in a big way from a heartbreaking loss Feb. 20 to rival Rockdale High School in a match that went to penalty kicks.
Los Patos were led by senior standout Oscar González as he recorded a hat trick with three goals scored against the Smithville defense. Taylor junior Vincent Aguilar tallied two scores of his own, while senior Isaac Castro and sophomore Aaron Grimaldo also tallied goals.
Assisting on goals for Los Patos in the blowout over the Tigers were Aguilar, Grimaldo, junior Walter Calvac and fellow junior Edgar Villarruel.
Taylor (8-7 overall, 6-2 in 4A-District 24 play), under Head Coach Greyson Wooten, was scheduled Feb. 27 for a home district match versus Giddings High School and will remain home Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. for senior night hosting La Grange High School.
