PODIUM FINISH

The Taylor High School Academic Decathlon team competed in the Texas State Academic Decathlon Competition at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio Feb. 25-26 and returned with the bronze team medal and scholarship money.

The Taylor High School Academic Decathlon team competed in the Texas State Academic Decathlon Competition at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio Feb. 25-26 and returned with the bronze team medal and scholarship money.

Medal winners in the individual categories include:

• Essay –Tristyn Davy, scholastic silver,

• Interview – Samantha McIntire, honors gold; Tristyn Davy, scholastic gold; and Richard Davis, varsity gold;

• Speech – Samantha McIntire, honors silver; Tristyn Davy, scholastic gold; Lluvia Allen-Correa, scholastic bronze; Gabriella Howell, varsity gold; and Richard Davis, varsity bronze;

• Art – Zane Talavera, honors silver; and Tristyn Davy, scholastic bronze;

• Music – Zane Talavera, honors bronze; Tristyn Davy, scholastic silver; Gabriella Howell, varsity gold; and Richard Davis, varsity bronze;

• Literature – Zane Talavera, honors gold; Samantha McIntire, honors bronze; and Tristyn Davy, scholastic gold; and

• Social Science – Tristyn Davy, scholastic silver.

Overall winners include honors fifth place and $500 to Samantha McIntire, scholastic bronze and $1,000 to Tristyn Davy, and varsity fifth place and $500 to Gabriella Howell.

Top scorers in each team category for Taylor include Samantha McIntire in honors, Tristyn Davy in scholastic and Gabriella Howell in varsity.

Overall, the team amassed 33,913 points in this year’s curriculum, “Water: A Most Essential Resource.” In addition, each team member will receive $600 in scholarship money.

Team members include honors members juniors Zane Talavera and Soryna McIntire and senior Samantha McIntire. Scholastic competitors are senior Tristyn Davy and junior Lluvia Allen-Correa. Varsity talent are senior Richard Davis and junior Gabriella Howell. Alternate is Yahir Cancel.

Next year’s curriculum topic will be “The American Revolution and the New Nation.”
