CEDAR PARK — The Hutto High School varsity softball team continued the early stages of its 2024 season Tuesday, Feb. 20 as the Lady Hippos went on the road and got a dominant 14-1 victory over Cedar Park High School.
The Lady Hippos used a balanced offensive attack throughout their game against the Lady Timberwolves as Hutto put up three runs in the first inning, added four more in the second frame, tacked on one in the third, plated two more in the fourth and got four more insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Hutto sophomore Kenna Spence had a teamhigh three runs batted in during the rout of Cedar Park, while the duo of junior Makayla Martinez and freshman Makenna Castillo drove in two RBI apiece. Lady Hippos senior pitcher Elizabeth Espinosa was dominant in the circle for Hutto as she got the win with eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings with just one earned run allowed to the Lady Timberwolves.
Hutto, under Head Coach Matthew Mullins, had a 4-4 overall record as of Feb. 22-24 entering the three-day Round Rock Westwood Tournament. Be sure to check out the next issue of Taylor Press Sports for a tournament recap of the Lady Hippos’ games at the Westwood tourney.
