THRALL — The Taylor High School varsity softball team continued its first week of the 2024 regular season Feb. 15-17 at the Thrall High School tournament. The Lady Ducks picked up wins over Somerville High School, Cedar Creek High School and the Hutto High School junior varsity squad.

In the 8-3 victory over Somerville, the Lady Ducks broke a 1-1 tie with an explosive second inning as Taylor plated seven runs behind quality atbats from senior Kayleigh Page, junior Elicia Martinez, sophomore Holland Long and freshman Enicia Quintanilla. In the circle, sophomore pitcher Alayna Ortiz picked up the win for Taylor as the Lady Ducks cruised.

After a close 5-3 loss to the host Thrall Tigerettes, the Lady Ducks bounced back Friday morning as they got the job done with a 3-1 win over Cedar Creek. Facing a 1-0 deficit for most of the game, Taylor was able to break through on the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the fifth inning and was able to hold on. Taylor finished Friday off with an 8-3 victory over the Hutto Lady Hippos junior varsity team.

Following a 9-0 loss Saturday to Academy High School, Taylor (3-3 overall record) under first-year Head Coach McKensey Brentham is scheduled Feb. 20 for a home game versus Killeen High School and will travel Feb. 22-24 to compete at the Caldwell Tournament.
