CYPRESS — The Hutto High School varsity wrestling program had multiple Hippos compete Feb. 16-17 at the UIL 6A State Championship meet at Berry Center in Cypress.
Clyde Adams represented the Hutto boys in the 126pound class as the Region 4 champion in his class and was victorious over Nico Venturi of Arlington Martin High School in his first match via pin in 1:14. Adams was defeated in his second match by Kelby Bernard of Allen High School.
Luke Adams was the Region 4 champion for the Hippos in the 132-pound class but was defeated by Ezequiel Valadez of Arlington Martin and Kevin McAleavey of Cypress Creek High School.
Abigail Gallardo, who made school history for Hutto as the only Lady Hippo to ever qualify for the state tournament, was defeated via a 7-5 decision by Isabella Fresneda of Katy Paetow High School.
Reese Frausto, the Region 4 boys runner-up in the 157pound class, was victorious over Jemarion Moore of Houston Westside High School via a 13-1 majority decision but was defeated by Finn Shepard of Arlington Martin.
Trystan Blenis, the thirdplace finisher at regionals in the 150-pound class, won his opening match via a 13-2 majority decision over Alex Adame of Houston Clear Lake High School. Blenis then was defeated by Jake Moon of Rockwall High School and Carter Canizaro of Klein Oak High School.
