The Taylor Police Department welcomed its newest officer this past week.
Taylor PD held an official pinning ceremony for Kolton Whisenant at the Taylor Public Library Tuesday, Feb. 13.
“I’m excited for him,” said Matthew Whisenant, Kolton Whisenant’s father and retired Taylor firefighter. “That’s what he wanted to do, that’s what he’s always wanted to do.”
Kolton Whisenant graduated from Taylor High School in 2021 and he went on to work two years as a correctional officer in the Williamson County Jail.
He joined the Round Rock Police Department Peace Officer Academy in 2023 where he graduated Feb. 1 after seven months of intense training.
He was then hired by the Taylor Police Department as a new recruit.
During the induction ceremony, Chief Henry Fluck had Whisenant recite the Taylor PD mission statement, a tradition for the police department, as well as the law enforcement oath of honor and the oath of office.
“It’s a moment that he is going to remember for the rest of his life,” Fluck said.
Whisenant’s parents, Matthew and Lisa Whisenant, were the ones to do the official pinning of his badge.
Whisenant started his official street training with Taylor PD Wednesday, Feb. 14.
