BRYAN — The Taylor High School girls varsity basketball team started its 4A playoff journey Tuesday, Feb. 13 as the Lady Ducks cruised to a lopsided 78-27 victory over Houston Worthing High School in the bidistrict round.
“It feels good. You’re always nervous going into games like that,” Taylor Head Coach Lawrence Bailey said. “We had a feeling we could do really good but still, you get that nervousness and those butterflies but we were excited to get that first one out of the way.”
Behind a complete team effort from start to finish, the Lady Ducks dominated the Lady Colts as Taylor’s defense did not allow Worthing to score more than seven points in a quarter.
Taylor was led by a huge game from sophomore Madyson Mitchell as she had a game-high 31 points on 14-of-23 shooting from the floor, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists.
The Lady Ducks had 13 points from senior Asia Zachary, freshman Tiana Candee also scored in double figures with 10 points to go along with six rebounds and junior Sophia Fisher had a solid all-around game with seven points, five assists and two rebounds.
Taylor (21-7 overall record) was scheduled Feb. 16 for its area postseason matchup against Waco Connally High School at neutral site Temple High School.
