In a hard-fought match all night by both squads, the Taylor High School boys varsity soccer team won a thrilling 4A-District 24 match at home via shootout over Manor New Tech High School.
“Unbelievable finish to an absolutely fantastic game,” Taylor Head Coach Greyson Wooten said. “Incredibly proud of this team, their effort and determination throughout the entire match. Thanks to all of the fans who came out, stayed late and got loud for Los Patos tonight.”
Following a strong defensive team effort that had this match tied 0-0 at the end of regulation, Los Patos and the Titans headed to a pivotal shootout.
Taylor got the job done 4-3 in the shootout against New Tech, who was previously undefeated in district play. Penalty kicks taken and made were by junior Edwin Arriaga, senior Jose Romero, senior Isaac Castro and the match-winner by junior Walter Calvac.
“An amazing defensive performance and a fantastic game for senior David Cazares in goal making a decisive save in penalty kicks.” Wooten said.
Taylor (6-6 overall, 4-1 district record) is scheduled Feb. 13 to host Caldwell High School and will return home for district play Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. versus rival Rockdale High School.
