SMITHVILLE — The Taylor High School varsity powerlifting team was in action Saturday, Feb. 10 as the Lady Ducks and Ducks competed at the Smithville Tiger Invitational in the bench press, squat and deadlift.

The Lady Ducks placed third as a team in Smithville and took home plenty of hardware back to Taylor with three girls winning individual gold medalists, one silver and one bronze.
First-place winners for the Lady Ducks were the trio of Krista Randig in the 242-pound class with 950 total pounds lifted, Ri’Queleigh Holmes-Grant in the 148-pound class with 805 and Rylie Dlouhy in the 114pound class with 770.
Taylor’s silver medalist was Ariana Concha in the 165-pound class with 690 total pounds lifted, while bronze went to Amalia Lopez in the 132-pound class with 550.

The Ducks also brought back some hardware as the boys had one silver medalist, two bronze and one fourth-place finisher.
Arias Luciano was the runnerup in the 165-pound class with 1,105 total pounds lifted, Brandt Whitlow earned bronze in the 181-pound class with 1,155 total pounds lifted, Miguel Nino was a third-place finisher in the 132-pound class with 820 and Antonio Estrada placed fourth in the 123-pound class with 730.
The Lady Ducks will have a last-chance regional qualifier meet Feb. 17 at Del Valle High School and the Ducks will also have a last-chance qualifier Feb. 24 at the same location. Be sure to check out the official THSPA and THSWPA websites for full meet results this season.
