Hippos wrestling advances to state

SAN ANTONIO — The Hutto High School varsity wrestling program had six Hippos place highly Feb. 9-10 at the 6A Region 4 meet held at Littleton Gymnasium in San Antonio.

Clyde Adams was crowned the boys regional champion in the 126-pound class after he pinned Corbin Porter of Copperas Cove High School in 26 seconds.

Luke Adams was the winner of the boys 132-pound class via a 7-3 decision over Hagen Shipley of Dripping Springs High School.

Abigail Gallardo made history for Hutto as the only Lady Hippo to ever qualify for the state tournament as she was defeated in the girls 120-pound firstplace match by Brooke McCurley of Round Rock High School.

Reese Frausto also qualified for state as the runner-up in the boys 157-pound class after he was defeated via an 8-3 decision by Kaiden Antonacci of Lake Travis High School in the firstplace match. Trystan Blenis advanced to state as the bronze medalist in the boys 150-pound third-place match as he beat Cohen Beacom via a 3-2 decision.

Ayden Flanagan also qualified as a state alternate in the boys 144-pound class as he won the fifthplace match with a 7-0 decision over Jacob Baltierra of San Antonio Johnson High School.

Hutto will next compete Feb. 15-16 at the UIL Wrestling State Tournament as the Hippos head to the Berry Center in Cypress.
