Deadline approaches for election filing

An important deadline for the May 4 election will arrive shortly.

Candidates interested in running for school board or city council must file for election by Friday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. So far, only a few have filed for expiring seats.

The Taylor Independent School District board of trustees has seats expiring, held by Anita Volek and Marilyn Tennill.

According to information provided by Taylor ISD, Tennill is the only candidate to file for the May election so far.

Seats for the general election for Taylor City Council are District 2, currently held by Mitch Drummond, and District 3, currently held by Mayor Brandt Rydell.

Rydell announced last month that he is not seeking re-election.

Drummond, Heather (Shelli) Cobb and Terry Burris have filed for the District 2 seat so far. Kelly Cmerek is the sole candidate currently for the District 3 seat.

Hutto

The Hutto Independent School District board of trustees expiring seats belong to Amy English and James Matlock. Both have filed for re-election.

Ashley Rendon will also be on the ballot.

Hutto City Council expiring seats are Place 2, currently held by Dan Thornton, and Place 5, currently held by Dana Wilcott.

Thornton has filed for re-election. Nicole Calderone has filed for Place 5.

Granger

The Granger Independent School District board of trustees has two expiring seats held by incumbents Jeanette Welles and Mark Harwell.

Welles filed for re-election. Roman Ramirez has also filed.

There are three expiring seats for Granger City Council in the upcoming election. The three incumbents, Lori Gick, Ron Marx and Lee Weaver, have all filed for re-election.

Thrall

The Thrall Independent School District board of trustees expiring seats belong to Rodrigo Reyes, Stephanie Ochoa and Sonny Chandler. Drew Neal, who previously filed, withdrew his name from consideration Monday, Feb. 12.

That leaves Reyes, Ochoa, Mark Jarosek and Domingo Valdez as the remaining candidates.

Clay Karch is the only member of Thrall City Council that has an expiring seat. He has filed for re-election.
