HUTTO — The Hutto High School girls varsity basketball team concluded 6A-District 12 play on a high note Tuesday, Feb. 6 at home as the Lady Hippos got a hardfought 57-38 victory over rival Pflugerville Weiss High School.
Before the game against the Lady Wolves, a Lady Hippos’ quartet was honored for senior night with Alyssa Batton, Charlize Williams, Avery Hamby and Jori Benson.
Hutto was able to gradually build its lead in the first half, kept Weiss at bay and pulled away in the fourth quarter en route to a 19-point victory at home.
The Lady Hippos’ senior standout Batton helped lead the way in a solid all-around game with 15 points on four three-pointers made, six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Hutto sophomore Taylor Hicks also scored in double figures with 12 points on a trio of treys and seven rebounds, while junior Keyanna Carroll added six points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win over Weiss.
Hutto (15-19 overall, 7-5 district record) under Head Coach Samantha Guerrero is scheduled to begin the 6A bi-district playoffs Monday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. against top-seeded Duncanville High School in a game to be played at neutral site Lorena.
