SMITHVILLE — The Taylor High School boys varsity basketball team picked up a big 88-56 victory Tuesday, Feb. 6 on the road against Smithville High School to keep pace in the 4A-District 22 standings.
The Ducks were in control from start to finish, gradually staying ahead of the Tigers in the first half with a doubledigit cushion and then ran away with the game in the third and fourth quarters.
Taylor standout senior Treos Richardson did it all for the Ducks as he led the way with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor, eight steals, six assists and four rebounds.
Ducks junior T.J. Whybrew had 16 points and four rebounds, junior Eli Laurence had a double-double effort with 15 points to go along with 11 rebounds and junior Kylon Harris also scored in double figures with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Junior Harrison Tate had nine points and four rebounds in the win over Smithville, while senior Antonio Torres had a solid all-around game with seven points, a team-high nine rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Taylor (11-17 overall, 6-4 district record) under Head Coach Stephen Gibson is currently the No. 4 seed in the district. The Ducks are just one game behind Manor New Tech High School and Caldwell High School, who are tied for the No. 2 seed.
Taylor is scheduled Feb. 9 to travel to Austin Achieve High School and will conclude district play Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. on the road against New Tech.
