Lady Ducks and Tigerettes basketball 12-0 in district

The Taylor High School and Thrall High School girls varsity basketball teams put themselves in the history books Feb. 6 as both programs won games to crown themselves as district champions with perfect 12-0 records.

Taylor Lady Ducks

Behind a dominant run through 4A-District 22, the Lady Ducks beat every team they played by at least double digits and 10 of those 12 victories were by at least 20 points.

“They did it. Proud of our girls. They worked their tails off to get here,” Taylor Head Coach Lawrence Bailey said. “A lot of up and down days, but we held onto the rope and completed one of our goals. We have two more team goals we are shooting for. We are speaking it into existence.”

The postseason path to a 4A state championship for Lady Ducks basketball begins Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. as Taylor will take on Houston Worthing in the bidistrict round of the playoffs at neutral site Bryan High School.

Thrall Tigerettes

The Tigerettes were a force in 2A-District 27 as Thrall cliched the championship outright Feb. 6 with a victory at home over district runner-up Milano High School. “I was proud. It’s not easy,” Thrall Head Coach Katina Walker said. “You have a target on your back, you’ve got to keep that momentum. You have your on days and your off days, but these girls pulled it off. I’m just happy because of who they are, what they stand for and what we’ve been able to accomplish. I’ve been here seven years, and the ultimate thing is to build that strong program.”

The Tigerettes will start their 2A postseason path to a state championship either Feb. 12 or 13 in the 2A bi-district playoffs as Thrall awaits Friday night’s seeding game between Bloomington High School and Weimar High School.
