HUTTO — The Hutto High School boys varsity basketball team won its third district game in a row Friday, Feb. 2 as the Hippos used a balanced scoring attack in their 74-53 victory at home over Bryan High School.
The Hippos jumped out to a 15-11 lead over the Vikings after the first quarter, increased to a 34-20 lead at halftime and eventually used a 26-19 fourth-quarter run to put the game out of reach.
Hutto junior Cylin Tate led the way with a team-high 17 points and five rebounds, while senior Zachary Hicks scored 14 points to go along with seven rebounds, two blocked shots and one steal.
Hippos senior Byron Piper also scored 14 points on a trio of three-pointers made to go along with five rebounds and two assists, while junior Jacob Bell also scored in double figures with 12 points, six assists, five steals and two rebounds against Bryan.
Hutto (15-14 overall, 6- 4 district record) under Head Coach Gant Caraway is currently the No. 3 seed in 6A-District 12 and is scheduled Feb. 6 to travel to take on rival Pflugerville Weiss High School. The Hippos will conclude the regular season Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. on the road against Waco Midway High School.
