GIDDINGS — The Taylor High School boys varsity soccer team won its fifth match in a row Friday, Feb. 2 as Los Patos picked up a hard-fought 2-0 district victory on the road at Giddings High School.
Los Patos got on the board late in the first half as junior Vincent Aguilar scored on a free kick on the edge of the 18-yard box, giving Taylor a 1-0 lead headed into halftime.
Taylor increased its lead midway through the second half as senior Aiden Crane scored a goal off a deflected shot as Los Patos increased its advantage to 2-0.
For the past five games, the Taylor team defense has completely locked in and that continued last Friday against the Buffaloes.
Los Patos senior goalkeeper David Cazares had a clutch save in the first half that kept the score knotted at 0-0, while Taylor junior goalkeeper Cooper Mendoza closed out the game in the second half as Giddings was held scoreless.
Taylor (5-5 overall, 3-0 district record) is scheduled Feb. 6 to travel to La Grange High School and will return home Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. for a district showdown with Manor New Tech High School.
