Ducks Decathlon Dynasty continues

CORPUS CHRISTI — Local students succeeded in the 10-leg scholastic challenge last month.

The Taylor High School Academic Decathlon team returned home from their regional competition in Corpus Christi Jan. 26 and Jan. 27 with a gold medal.

After winning its regional contest, the ACDEC team will head to San Antonio Feb. 22 for the 20th consecutive year to represent Taylor High School at the Texas Academic Decathlon state competition.

Taylor is ranked third in the state small school division. This year’s curriculum is Technology and Humanity.

Taylor medal winners are:

• Speech – Jaden Rush, honors gold medal; Collin McGinnis, scholastic gold medal; Jeremiah Ruiz, scholastic bronze medal; Sam Brown, varsity bronze medal.

• Interview – Jaden Rush and Rose Simons tie for honors gold medal with perfect scores • Essay – Rose Simons, honors gold medal with a perfect score; Alexandra Rebollar-Cruz, honors silver medal; Jeremiah Ruiz, scholastic gold medal; Collin McGinnis, scholastic bronze medal; Sam Brown, varsity bronze medal.

• Science – Jeremiah Ruiz, scholastic silver medal; Ravis Kennedy, varsity gold medal.

• Economics – Jaden Rush, honors silver medal, Jeremiah Ruiz, scholastic gold medal; Ravis Kennedy, varsity silver medal.

• Social Science – Jaden Rush, honors silver medal; Nathan Basche and Collin McGinnis tie for the scholastic silver medal; Ravis Kennedy, varsity bronze medal.

• Overall Winners – Jaden Rush, honors silver medal; Alexandra Rebollar-Cruz, honors bronze medal; Jeremiah Ruiz, scholastic gold medal; Collin McGinnis, scholastic bronze medal; Ravis Kennedy, varsity silver medal; Sam Brown, varsity bronze medal.

The team also won the silver medal for super quiz oral relay.

Honors team members are senior Jaden Rush, senior Rose Simons and junior Alexandra Rebollar-Cruz. Scholastic team members are junior Collin McGinnis, junior Jeremiah Ruiz and senior Nathan Basche.

Varsity team members are junior Sami Pike-Hegar, senior Sam Brown and junior Ravis Kennedy. Team alternates are sophomore Izabel Johnson, sophomore Laurena Torres and junior John Paul Davis.
