HUTTO — The Hutto High School girls varsity basketball team was victorious Tuesday, Jan. 30 as the Lady Hippos ground out a 45-38 district victory at home over Copperas Cove High School.
It was a milestone night for Hutto senior Charlize Williams as she surpassed 1,000 career points in the game against the Lady Bulldawgs. Williams led the Lady Hippos in a double- double effort with 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Hutto sophomore Taylor Hicks also scored in double figures versus Copperas Cove with 11 points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot. Lady Hippos junior Saniyah McCallister had eight points and two rebounds, while senior Alyssa Batton had a solid all-around game with eight points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Hutto (14-18 overall, 6-4 district record) under Head Coach Samantha Guerrero is now in a tie for the No. 3 seed in 6A-District 12 with Harker Heights High School. The Lady Hippos are scheduled Feb. 2 for a road game at Bryan High School and will return home Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. to host district rival Pflugerville Weiss High School.
