Fourth Street construction begins this week

The Taylor on the Move street maintenance project is underway and project managers have announced that they will begin planned improvements on Fourth Street at the beginning of February.

The project includes recently completed upgrades to Mallard Lane, as well as upgrades to Fourth Street and Second Street. The project is expected to be completed by summer.

Improvements to Fourth Street will include resurfacing and striping from Main Street to Carlos G. Parker Boulevard. There will be updated striping from Main Street to Gym Street. There will also be a full-depth reconstruction to smooth out a portion of the roadway west of the railroad crossing.

A two-way cycle track will also be installed on the north side of the street, offering a more direct connection to the greenbelt near the animal shelter, allowing more accessibility to residents and visitors throughout Taylor.

Construction on Fourth Street is anticipated to last through April. During construction, there will remain access to crossroads and driveways.

The project is part of the 2022 Infrastructure Bond approved by the Taylor City Council in a public meeting Dec. 8, 2022. Improvements include seal coating, sidewalk reconstruction, street reclamation with new surface asphalt, signage, striping and traffic control for city streets.

The construction contract was awarded to Texas Road in the amount of $4,094,857.40 in June of last year.
