THRALL — With Tuesday’s 76-23 rout of the Holland Lady Hornets, the Thrall Tigerettes (18-12 overall, 10-0 District 27-2A) remained atop the district standings and also set a new season-high in points.
Holland managed an early 3-3 tie, but the Tigerettes finished off the first quarter with a 15-2 scoring edge, to take control of the game. Nevaeh Irvin, who finished the night with 19 points, scored seven in the opening period, while Ashlyn Jarosek, who led all scorers with 20 points, dropped in five to pace the Tigerettes.
The second period was a near mirror image of the first. Thrall’s defense forced multiple turnovers that the Tigerettes converted into points. For the game, Thrall forced 31 Holland turnovers and converted those miscues into 26 points. Jarosek led the Tigerettes with seven points in the second period and helped the Tigerettes to a 35-13 lead at the break.
In the third quarter, the Tigerettes began to roll.
Eleven Holland turnovers led to 14 Thrall points, and the Tigerettes finished the quarter scoring 25 while holding the visitors to seven.
A balanced attack proved to be too much for the Lady Hornets. Irvin and CeCe Walker each scored seven in the quarter, while Kinley Hoffman added five, and Thrall entered the fourth quarter with a 60-20 advantage.
Thrall continued to pour it on in the final quarter, outscoring Holland 16-3. Ashlyn Jarosek, and sister Bri Jarosek, each scored four in the final period to pace six Tigerettes with points in the quarter. Hoffman’s steal and fast-break layup with 1:25 to play pushed Thrall’s total to 74, which surpassed their previous season high of 73, set in January against these same Lady Hornets. Avery Ochoa’s fast-break lay-up with 30 seconds to play provided the final margin.
In addition to Jarosek and Irvin’s offensive output, the Tigerettes also got double-digit scoring from Hoffman with 13 and Walker with 12. Irvin also pulled 18 rebounds and dished out seven assists.
The Tigerettes were on the road Friday, playing in Hearne against the Lady Eagles. They will return home on Tuesday for their final regularseason game against the Milano Lady Eagles. Milano (19-10, 10-1) is currently in second place, trailing the Tigerettes by a half game.
