Back-to-back: Lady Ducks power to district title

Back-to-back: Lady Ducks power to district title

The Taylor High School girls varsity basketball team won its second consecutive 4A-District 22 title Tuesday, Jan. 30 as the Lady Ducks cruised to a 75-33 victory at home over the Lady Buffaloes of Giddings High School.

As the Lady Ducks have done throughout district play, Taylor dominated this game versus Giddings from start to finish on both ends of the court. As a team, the Lady Ducks shot a highly efficient 33-of-59 from the floor and frustrated the Lady Buffaloes all night with 25 steals on defense.

Taylor sophomore Madyson Mitchell led the way with a gamehigh 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Lady Ducks senior Ansley Reed had 12 points to go along with five steals and four assists, while fellow senior Asia Zachary also scored in double figures with 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Junior Kionayh Rivers had another solid all-around game with nine points to go along with seven rebounds and five blocked shots, while freshman Tiana Candee added six points and six rebounds.

Taylor (18-7 overall, 10-0 district record) under Head Coach Lawrence Bailey is scheduled Feb. 2 to host Caldwell High School for senior night and conclude district play Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 6:15 p.m. on the road at Smithville High School.
