GRANGER — The Granger High School girls varsity basketball team picked up another huge 2A-District 27 victory Friday, Jan. 26 at home as the Lady Lions held on for a 34-33 win over the Lady Bulldogs of Thorndale High School.
Granger was led on the evening by senior Montana Moore as she had a team-high 11 points, five rebounds and two assists while junior Marissa Hall added seven points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Lady Lions senior Destiny Cotten, who scored the game’s first points with a three-pointer, knocked down a clutch three-pointer in the final minute to extend the Granger lead to 34-29 and the Lady Lions were able to hold on. Cotten finished with six points, a pair of threepointers made, one rebound and one steal against Thorndale.
The Lady Lions and Lady Bulldogs previously played Jan. 2 in a game where Granger came back from a seven- point deficit in the fourth quarter to stun Thorndale 42-40 in its home gym.
Granger (8-22 overall, 4-6 district record) under Head Coach Kendall Cotten is currently the No. 4 seed in the district and controls its playoff destiny. The Lady Lions are scheduled to return to district play Friday, Feb. 2 at 6:15 p.m. for a rivalry game on the road against the Lassies of Bartlett High School.
