ROCKDALE — The Taylor High School boys varsity soccer team got 4A-District 24 play started on a high note Friday, Jan. 26 as Los Patos went on the road and picked up a thrilling 1-0 victory at rival Rockdale High School.
“Having started off the season with a tough run of games, getting a district win feels great,” Taylor Head Coach Greyson Wooten said. “Rockdale is a well-coached, tough team and their record reflects that. Winning 1-0 at their place was a step in the right direction for us.”
Taylor got on the board midway through the first half as senior Jose Romero scored the lone goal for Los Patos and was assisted on the score by junior Vincent Aguilar.
“Jose and Vincent not only capitalized on a valuable opportunity but also exemplified our team’s commitment to taking and creating chances,” Wooten said. “Their outstanding play was a testament to the entire team’s performance.”
Rockdale, who entered the night with a 10-2-2 overall record and had beaten Caldwell High School 8-0 earlier in the week, was held scoreless Friday thanks to a complete effort on defense from Taylor.
“As the season has gone on, the team chemistry has continued to grow and develop and I think that’s played a huge role in how we’ve played these last few games,” Wooten said. “Guys are communicating more effectively and working more as a unit than individuals.”
Taylor (3-5 overall, 1-0 district record) is scheduled Jan. 30 to host Smithville High School and will travel Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at Giddings High School.
