Alongtime member of the Taylor Fire Department is making a career change and heading east.

Lt. Tim Davis, who has been fighting fires in Taylor since 1999, will be joining the Lampasas Fire Department as deputy chief of operations and was recently thanked by the city of Taylor.

Davis was honored for his 25 years of service to Taylor with a ceremony Monday, Jan. 29 at Taylor FD’s Station 1.

The Taylor Professional Firefighters Association said Davis spent most of his career serving as a B-shift Lieutenant which involved molding recruits to firefighters and then building firefighters into engineers and lieutenants.

“Tim leaves behind a legacy of steadfast service to the citizens of Taylor, having responded to thousands of incidents both large and small,” the association said in a statement.

Throughout his career Davis served as a Firefighter III, Fire Inspector III, Fire Investigator III, Instructor II and Plans Examiner, Hazardous Materials Technician and Rescue Diver.

Lt. Cody Kraemer, Assistant Fire Chief Robert Copeland and Fire Chief Daniel Baum later gave remarks about the retiring firefighter’s service over the last 25 years and their memories of working with him.

Copeland said Davis was a founding member of the fire department’s Honor Guard, which focuses on performing rituals and tributes for solemn occasions, tributes and marches.
