New Potters Alley art sought

Residents have an opportunity to help revitalize art in a downtown Taylor alley.

The Taylor Public Arts Advisory Board, an entity created by the Taylor City Council, is issuing a call for proposals to refresh and add new art to Potters Alley, a brick alley way that extends west off Main Street less than a block north of Second Street.

The theme of the installation will be left up to the individual artist. However, the goal of this call is to replace the aging art currently on this south-facing wall with art that renders a similar look and feel.

The art currently on this wall would be considered spontaneous, organic street art. Much of it was created with spray paint. The Public Arts board will not consider art that includes obscenity, nudity, hate speech or misogyny.

Up to seven artists will be selected for the project. Each artist will be assigned a panel that is approximately 12 feet wide by 8 feet tall. Materials for this project are up to the artist’s discretion. Each artist will receive a $200 materials stipend upon completion.

The deadline for this call is March 31. The Board’s expectation is that the installation of the successful works should be completed by May 1.

For consideration, send your proposal of a sketch, a brief statement, a link to any other work and contact information to [email protected].
