ENNIS — The Hutto High School boys varsity basketball team traveled far north Friday, Jan. 19 for a nondistrict game at Ennis High School and the Hippos cruised to a 68-47 victory over the host Lions.
The Hippos got off to a quick 20-13 lead in the first quarter, maintained a 33-26 lead at halftime and broke the game open in the second half as Hutto led Ennis by as many as 28 points.
Hutto junior Cylin Tate led the way as he had a game-high 18 points to go along with four assists, four steals and three rebounds. Hippos senior Dylan Patrick added 12 points and two rebounds, junior Jacob Bell also scored in double figures with 10 points to go along with three steals and senior Byron Piper had eight points on two three-pointers made.
The Hippos (12-13 overall record, 3-3 district) under Head Coach Gant Caraway return to 6A-District 12 play Jan. 23 on the road at Harker Heights High School and will be back home Friday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. to host Temple High School. Hutto was last edged 60-54 at home by the Harker Heights Knights and handled business 50-36 on the road against the Temple Wildcats.
