Lions hoops handles Milano

GRANGER — The Granger High School boys varsity basketball team got back into the win column Friday, Jan. 19 as the Lions handled business with a 45-23 victory at home versus district foe Milano High School.

The Lions got off to a fast start with a 19-6 lead in the first quarter and held a 27-7 lead heading into halftime. The lead for Granger then ballooned to as much as 28 points in the third quarter as the Lions were able to coast in the second half.

As a team, the Lions’ defense suffocated the Eagles all night as Milano shot just 8-of-45 from the field and committed 24 turnovers.

The visiting Eagles had no answer to stop Granger senior Trae Herrera as he led the way with a game-high 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor, two three-pointers made, five steals, three rebounds and one blocked shot.

Also making an impact of note for the Lions were senior Michael Selucky with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting, junior Isaac Campos with seven points to go along with three rebounds and sophomore Kael Jackson with six points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists in the win over Milano.

Granger (11-9 overall, 2-4 in district) under Head Coach Chaston Kubacak has a 2A-District 27 game scheduled Jan. 23 at Thrall High School and will resume district play at home Friday, Jan. 26 at 7:15 p.m. versus district frontrunner Thorndale High School.
