Heselmeyer Volek, 75, of Taylor, peacefully passed away with family at her side Thursday Jan. 11, 2024.

Shirley was born Jan. 18, 1948, in Taylor, to the late Robert and Emma Heselmeyer. She graduated from Thrall High School.

She married the late Ervin Volek on Oct. 8, 1966. She worked as a tax examiner for IRS for 30 years.

Shirley enjoyed dancing with her husband to polka and waltz music, cooking, reading, visiting with friends on the phone and spending time with family.

She was a member of the Sons of Hermann organization for 70 years. Throughout her life, she gave back to the community through school donations, Brown Santa, food pantry and Christmas Operation.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Volek; her parents, Robert and Emma Heselmeyer; and siblings, Bobby Ray, Lynn Fay and Melissa. Shirley is survived by her loving daughter, Stephannie Woelfel and husband Edward; two grandchildren who were so precious to her, Madalynn Raesz and husband Montgomery, and Logan Woelfel. 

Serving as pallbearers are Edward Woelfel, Logan Woelfel, Montgomery Raesz, Glenn Faykus, Melvin Volek, Ronnie Heselmeyer and Joey Quebe. Honorary pallbearer is Alvin Faykus.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. at the Taylor Brethren Church, 710 Sloan St. in Taylor. Burial followed at the Taylor City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Shirley’s honor to the Taylor Brethren Church.

The family of Shirley Ann Heselmeyer Volek wishes to thank S.P.J.S.T. nursing home for their unconditional care throughout the last year and a half, especially nurse Rylie. Also, St. Davids Georgetown for the comfort and care provided to Shirley and her family.
