Lady Lions pluck Lady Eagles

HEARNE — The Granger High School girls varsity basketball team continued its 2A-District 27 playoff push Wednesday, Jan. 17 as the Lady Lions went on the road and picked up a 49-32 victory against the Lady Eagles of Hearne High School.

Tied 6-6 at the end of the first quarter, Granger really got going offensively as the Lady Lions led 21-17 at halftime, ballooned their lead to 37-20 after the third quarter and kept the Lady Eagles at bay down the stretch of the final frame.

The Lady Lions were led by Montana Moore who had a game-high 15 points with a pair of three-pointers made, while junior Sofia Bernal also scored in double figures with 11 points and knocked down three shots from behind the arc.

Also making an impact in the win over Hearne for Granger were junior Marissa Hall with eight points, sophomore Victoria Castillo with seven points and senior Clarissa Miller with six points on two threepointers.

Granger (7-20 overall record, 3-4 in district) under Head Coach Kendall Cotten are scheduled Jan. 19 for a home district game versus Milano High School and then will continue district play Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6:15 p.m. on the road against the Tigerettes of Thrall High School.
