HUTTO — The Hutto High School boys varsity basketball team got back in the 6A-District 12 win column Wednesday, Jan. 17 as the Hippos fought hard for a 63-45 victory at home versus Waco Midway High School.
Following a backand- forth first quarter in which Hutto held a 21-19 lead over Midway, the Hippos carried a 31-25 lead at halftime and then outscored the Panthers 16-8 in the third quarter to help them pull away.
Hutto was led on the night by junior Cylin Tate as he did it all with a team-high 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots and one steal. Fellow junior Jacob Bell also had a solid all-around game with 15 points on fiveof- six shooting from three-point range, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals.
Hippos senior Dylan Patrick also scored in double figures with 11 points and three assists, while senior Jacques Calhoun had nine points, five rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks in the win over Midway.
The Hippos (11-13 overall, 3-3 in district) under Head Coach Gant Caraway have a scheduled non-district game Jan. 19 at Ennis High School and will return to district play Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. when Hutto travels to take on the Knights of Harker Heights High School.
