Ducks turn up heat versus Polar Bears

The Taylor High School boys varsity

basketball team shook off a slow start Wednesday, Jan. 17 as the Ducks came to life for a dominant 88-48 district victory at home against the Polar Bears of Austin Achieve High School.

Despite Taylor being down 17-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Ducks woke up the rest of the way as they took a 41-25 lead at halftime and did not look back.

Taylor was led on offense by the highpowered trio of senior Treos Richardson, junior Eli Laurence and freshman Landon Coulter. Richardson did it all for the Ducks with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocked shots.

Laurence also had a solid all-around night with 16 points, a teamhigh nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block while Coulter added a season-high 16 points, five rebounds and two assists against Achieve.

Taylor junior T.J. Whybrew also scored in double figures with 15 points and five assists, while a trio of Ducks had eight points apiece with senior Garrett Turner, junior Harrison Tate and junior Kylon Harris.

The Ducks (8-15 overall, 3-2 in district) under Head Coach Stephen Gibson are scheduled Jan. 19 to host Manor New Tech High School and then will hit the road Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. to square off with 4A-District 22 frontrunner La Grange High School.
