Lady Ducks over-Achieve 72-3

The Taylor High School girls varsity

basketball team improved to a 7-0 mark in 4A-District 22 play Wednesday, Jan. 17 as the Lady Ducks won with ease 72-3 at home versus the Lady Polar Bears of Austin Achieve High School.

After Taylor had a 56-3 lead at halftime, the Lady Ducks were able to take their foot off the gas in the second half but still held the Lady Bears scoreless down the stretch in the team’s largest margin of victory this 2023-24 season.

The Lady Ducks were led by senior Ansley Reed as she had a game-high 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor, a trio of three-pointers made, two rebounds, two assists and one steal. Taylor sophomore Madyson Mitchell had 12 points to go along with six steals, four rebounds and three assists while fellow sophomore Aubriana Alderete also scored in double futures with 10 points on two threepointers, three steals, one assist and one block.

Also leading a balanced attack for Taylor were junior Sophia Fisher with eight points and five assists, freshman Tiana Candee with eight points and five rebounds, junior Zakaya Frederick with five points and two assists, senior Mia Duncan with four points and two assists, junior Ursula Rydell with four points to go along with four rebounds and junior Molli Kennick with two points, a game-high nine steals, three assists and two rebounds.

Following the Lady Ducks’ district home game Jan. 19 versus Manor New Tech High School, the Taylor girls (15-7 overall record) under Head Coach Lawrence Bailey will hit the road Jan. 23 at 6:15 p.m. for another district contest at La Grange High School.
