BURNET — The Taylor High School girls varsity soccer team continued its solid start to the 2024 season Jan.
11-13 as the Lady Patos competed over the weekend at a tournament hosted by Burnet High School.
TAYLOR LADY PATOS 1, SALADO LADY EAGLES JV 0
Taylor got its first win of the tournament last Thursday with a 1-0 win last Thursday over the Salado High School junior varsity squad. The Lady Patos got their lone goal of the afternoon from junior standout Kaleigh Woods and she was assisted by sophomore Avery Paulsen.
TAYLOR LADY PATOS 2, CONNALLY LADY COUGARS 2 (SHOOTOUT) In its most exciting match of the early season, the Lady Patos and Pflugerville Connally High School played back-and-forth and needed more than regulation to determine Friday’s 2-2 result. The Lady Patos pulled it off in the shootout as Taylor picked up yet another victory. Woods tallied another two goals for Taylor, while freshman Analise Arredondo assisted on both goals in the win over the Lady Cougars.
TAYLOR LADY PATOS 3, LAMPASAS LADY BADGERS 0 Taylor left no doubt Friday in its third match of the tournament as the Lady Patos got a balanced scoring attack and played solid team defense in a 3-0 shutout win against the Lady Badgers of Lampasas High School.
The Lady Patos got one goal apiece from Woods, Arredondo and sophomore Tessa Kopecky with one assist from Paulsen and another from sophomore Peyton Wamble.
However, Taylor would fall to a very talented 5A Killeen Ellison High in the tournament semifinal as the Lady Patos were defeated 6-0. The Lady Eagles eventually won the Burnet tournament final 1-0 over Canyon Amarillo High School.
The Taylor girls varsity soccer squad (4-4 overall record) under Head Coach Jose Flores will continue non-district play Friday, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m. as the Lady Patos are set to host their home opener versus Brownwood High School.
