The Ducks needed a dominant victory at home under Head Coach Stephen Gibson and they got just that Friday, Jan. 12 as the Taylor High School boys varsity basketball team routed Smithville High School 68-37 to pick up a pivotal 4A-District 22 victory.

Following a slow start to the first quarter, the Ducks’ offense came to life against the Tigers in the second quarter as Taylor was up 34-10 at halftime and never looked back the rest of the way.

Taylor was led by a double- double effort from standout senior Treos Richardson as he paved the way with a game-high 25 points on multiple three-pointers made, 12 rebounds, 4 steals, three assists and one blocked shot against Smithville.

The Ducks also got a huge spark in the fourth quarter from senior Garrett Turner to the delight of his teammates and the crowd.

Turner came off the bench and had 13 points and made a trio of shots from behind the arc.

Taylor junior Kylon Harris also scored in double figures with 11 points with two three-pointers made, while senior Antonio Torres had a solid game with seven points, four rebounds, three and two steals.

The Ducks, who are now 7-15 overall and 2-2 in district play, will host Austin Achieve High School Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. and will remain at home Friday at 7:30 p.m. to continue district play versus Manor New Tech High School.
